Edge computing: code running at the CDN, not your server

Traditional CDNs cache static files at edge nodes and forward everything else to your origin server. Edge computing goes further: run actual application code at the edge node, 5–10ms from the user, without a round-trip to your origin.

Cloudflare Workers, Lambda@Edge, and Fastly Compute deploy code to hundreds of PoPs worldwide. For auth, personalization, and request routing — tasks that previously required hitting a server — edge code eliminates 50–100ms of round-trip latency and reduces origin load.
