Link aggregation: more than the sum of its parts

A single 1G NIC is a bottleneck for a busy server. Link Aggregation Group (LAG) bonds multiple physical NICs into one logical interface. The result: higher bandwidth, automatic failover if a cable fails, and from the network's perspective — a single port.

LACP (IEEE 802.3ad) is the protocol that negotiates and maintains the bond between server and switch.
