Source routing: path in the packet

Traditional MPLS requires RSVP-TE to signal paths hop-by-hop and maintain per-flow state in every core router. Segment Routing eliminates this: the source (ingress) router encodes the entire forwarding path in the packet header as an ordered list of Segment IDs.

Core routers need no per-flow state — they simply process the active segment and forward. This dramatically simplifies network state and enables instant path changes.
