WiFi 7 (802.11be): designed for the multi-device, low-latency era

WiFi 7 (IEEE 802.11be, finalized 2024) targets two problems WiFi 6 didn't fully solve: latency and multi-device throughput. A modern home has 30–50 connected devices. A VR headset needs sub-5ms latency. A NAS backup needs multi-gigabit throughput simultaneously.

The headline features: Multi-Link Operation (use all three bands at once), 320 MHz channels (double the bandwidth), 4096-QAM (denser encoding), and HARQ borrowed from cellular. Theoretical max: 46.1 Gbps — roughly 5× WiFi 6.
